One explanation for cellulite could be hormones, which can play an important role in cellulite development. Things like estrogen, thyroid hormones, prolactin, insulin, and noradrenaline are all a part of the cellulite production process. One theory is that as estrogen in women decreases in the approach to menopause, blood flow to the connective tissue under the skin also decreases.
Lower circulation means less oxygen in the area, resulting in lower collagen production. Fat cells also enlarge as estrogen levels fall. These factors combine to makes the fat deposits more visible. As the fat under the skin protrudes through weakening connective tissue, the familiar dimpling effect results.
Age may also cause the skin to become less elastic, thinner, and more likely to sag. This could increase the chance of cellulite developing, along with lack of exercise, a sedentary life and improper diet. Extra weight can make cellulite more visible. For some people, losing weight and staying at a healthy weight reduces the amount of cellulite they see. If you develop loose skin while losing weight, however, cellulite can become more noticeable. Another way to help counteract cellulite is exercise. Having more muscle makes your skin look smoother and firmer. Replacing fat with muscle can also make cellulite less noticeable.
Today there are many cremes claiming to remove cellulite. Some cellulite products require extensive massage techniques to deliver results, some don’t. A good quality cellulite creme may contain ingredients like glycolic acid, caffeine, argan oil, and botanical and marine extracts. When these are combined into a proper formula, they could visibly minimize the appearance of stubborn cellulite and possibly recapture your skin’s youthful appearance.
