We’ve all heard those words, I’m sure, so let’s explore some of the information about what they mean.
Hyaluronic acid is a molecule or lubricating fluid which is naturally found in your skin, your eyes, body joints and fluid. Because it has a really good capacity to hold water, it’s main uses are in lotions, supplements, serums, and even eye drops! Hyaluronic acid also gives structure and moisture to damaged tissue.
Since hyaluronic acid is not harsh and doesn’t strip the skin at all, it’s actually a natural occurring polysaccharide (carbohydrate) in your body. (I love using big words, it makes me feel so intelligent!)
Hyaluronic acid is also a powerful humectant, meaning it’s a moisture-binding ingredient that keeps your skin hydrated, plumper and definitely younger-looking. So if you’re looking for a soft glowing complexion, you may want to look for products containing this ingredient, especially since it’s good for all skin types.
As we age, our body makes less collagen, causing our face and body to show more wrinkles and discoloration. When we use products to increase our collagen levels, it helps keep our skin softer and more supple. Thus, hyaluronic acid is one of the main ingredients that helps restore our collagen production, which in turn helps our skin retain its moisture, and hopefully will slow down our skin’s aging process. We want to do whatever we can to look our best, right?
So now that you know a little more about hyaluronic acid, don’t you feel wonderfully intelligent? Ha! Me, too. We are such smart people, aren’t we!
